Finn Juhl and his House

Finn Juhl was a part of the epoch-making movement known as Danish Modern, which lasted from around 1930 until the end of the 1960s. In addition to Finn Juhl, it included such names as Hans Wegner, Arne Jacobsen, Poul Kjærholm, Kaare Klint, Mogens Koch, and Børge Mogensen. One of the first to achieve international success, Finn Juhl paved the way for Danish Modern to become an international “brand” for Danish furniture design.

This book shines a spotlight not only on Finn Juhl’s house but also as a modernist and man of the world, thereby offering new and exciting angles on the material. It focuses on the period from Finn Juhl’s first experimental furniture in the 1930s through the Golden Age in the 1940s and 1950s to today, when the furniture has experienced a renaissance as design classics and collector’s items.

Richly illustrated with photographs, drawings, and watercolors, many of which are published for the first time.

Per H. Hansen (born 1957) is a historian and professor at the Center for Business History of Copenhagen Business School. He has written a number of books and articles about modern Danish furniture and about financial and economic history. Per H. Hansen has been interested in Danish Modern for many years and harbors a special fondness for Finn Juhl’s furniture.

Birgit Lyngbye Pedersen (born 1961) has a master’s degree in Education and Textiles. A design historian, she is involved in numerous design and architecture projects, focusing especially on Finn Juhl.
