Børge Mogensen (1914-1972) designed some of the most renowned and iconic pieces of furniture of the nineteen-fifties and sixties. Influenced by traditional craftsmanship, Mogensen’s aim was to create democratic furniture – inexpensive, simple, and functional but at the same time high-quality. Its main purpose was to meet the needs of the average family – and yet, as a testament to their enduring quality and design many of Mogensen’s pieces are still produced and sought after today.
Presenting Mogensen’s most well-known and popular designs, ‘Børge Mogensen: Simplicity and Function’ examines the Danish designer’s artistic and conceptual approach. With more than two hundred photos, sketches, drawings as well as private interview material – many of which are published here for the first time – this richly illustrated monograph permits a unique insight into one of the most important representatives of Danish furniture design.
