100 Years of Danish Modern – Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects

‘100 Years of Danish Modern: Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects’ tells the story of the development of the Danish welfare state through the lens of Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects’ diverse and wide-ranging practice. A story of visionary ideas and magnificent works with the quality to remain relevant for a century – and more.

Architecture not only reflects modern society – it literally helped to build it. In this endeavor, Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects occupies a unique position in Scandinavian architecture, as the firm’s uninterrupted century-long practice means it is as old as Nordic modernism itself. While good architecture was once the reserve of the elite, the studio’s buildings reflect the ideal of creating quality architecture for everyone. This is evident in modernist icons such as Copenhagen Airport, the Radio House, Daell’s Department Store and Folkets Hus (now VEGA) as well as in Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects’ current practice, which includes highly acclaimed projects such as DR Byen, Krøyers Plads and the future ‘super hospital’ in Hillerød. The book marks the 100th anniversary of the architecture firm.
